About You
I absolutely loved my experience. I was volunteering in Costa Rica on a wildlife project and the simple outdoor and active way of life suited me perfectly!
Everyone was hugely welcoming and friendly and there was always lots to do. Sometimes the exact purpose or use of what we were doing was not explained but if you asked the staff were always happy to answer.
As much as was needed - the inductions were not too long or boring and there were always people on had to help.
It has not aided my degree at all because this was a wildlife conservation project and I study history. I am still at university and have not seriously looked at careers but am considering a career in wildlife conservation so I imagine it will prove useful then.
The Company
It was brilliant - you were never bored or lonely and it didn't get repetitive as there was so much to do. It was also very flexible so you could take time off to experience other activities such as dolphin watching or long distance trekking if you wanted.
Amazing, it can't be faulted!
There was the option of carrying out a BTEC if you wanted but I was not there long enough to do this. Most training or development was done on the job and was perfectly adequate but gave no qualifications.
It gave a perfect insight into what it would be like as a field researcher on the Costa Rica project I was on and that is all that can reasonably be expected. There are many other roles which are more administrative or involved with other projects that I did not really get an insight into.
I only met five or six people who worked for Frontier. They all seemed very happy with their jobs and therefore I assume the company culture was also good.
It convinced me that wildlife conservation is something that interests me but further research and experience in more administrative roles will be necessary. However I do not fault Frontier for this - they gave me exactly what I was looking for at that time!
Everything Else
I was not paid or reimbursed. Volunteering with Frontier is an expensive occupation but well worth it!
There were few opportunities but I have kept in touch with the people I met and have since become an ambassador for Frontier.
There were no specific opportunities - you simply met people while working.
Given the nature of the project there was little time outside of work but every evening the staff joined in whatever activity was occurring around camp.
Without hesitation - it was amazing and the best two weeks of my life!
