    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed working at CRUK. It is a really great organisation and everyone is very friendly. The work I was doing was interesting and I never felt like a volunteer, but was treated like a proper member of staff.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My manager was great at making me feel appreciated. I was never making cups of coffee!

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I could rely on my manager to help me with anything, even if the guidance was a bit unstructured. He had never had an intern before, so I think it was a learning curve for him as well.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I usually had something to do, but there were times when I was at a loose end. This meant I was often helping a fellow intern or doing fundraising stuff that wasn't directly related to my team. I would have preferred a more structured work load.

    2/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given tasks that were important to the project the team was working on. I was happy with the amount of responsibility I felt.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • 3/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere is great. There is always something going on and it is a very relaxed atmosphere- not to mention there is always ALOT of cake.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The Volunteer placement manager is brilliant and very supportive. She readily helped on any problems I had and encouraged us to make the most of the opportunities.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The opportunities are there, you just have to make the most of them.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Company Parties/Events

    Travel loan

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I have secured a job with CRUK but should stress that this is no way a guarantee of the internship.

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Partially, everyone was very friendly and we did meet for lunch and drinks, but I think this depends on your intake

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • It is in Angel, so central London so very expensive. I know a lot of interns commuted from areas outside London to avoid paying London rental prices.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife in Angel is good but I don't feel my intake of interns made the most of it.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes. There was always some sort of fundraising event going on with CRUK they encouraged you to get involved in

    4/5
