    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Replying to emails between team members. Arranging Microsoft Teams calls with fellow colleagues. Using google scholar to complete literature searches and considering which papers are relevant. From the relevant papers, extracting the findings and entering these into a spreadsheet. Then compiling the findings and identifying gaps in my research. These gaps are then filled by subsequent research. The research findings then go on to create a written report which must be planned and written to a high level of accuracy.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Yes! I am now much more confident on Microsoft Outlook and Teams. I can effectively schedule meetings and participate effectively when working from home. I am more confident searching literature on Google Scholar, able to read papers at a faster rate and analyse the findings with a high level of accuracy. My writing skills have also developed. I am now mire confident writing for different audiences and tailoring my writing style to the client of interest.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes! I have been the lead researcher on two projects and have played a supporting role as a researcher on a third and fourth project. I am able to integrate well within the team and take added responsibility if required. I can ask for more help when needed but do feel that the responsibility is on me to deliver - this keeps me motivated to achieve daily success.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • Guidance and support is always available whenever you need it. The team are so helpful and friendly, they make you feel at home as soon as you arrive. It is easy to ask somebody a question through emails or via Teams and people get back to you within a respected time period.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Really lovely place to work. Everyone is there for the right reasons and you feel part of the team. Never once have I felt out of place or excluded or just 'like a cog in a wider machine.'

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I have enjoyed the learning aspects of my internship. I have learned how to work better within a team at a small-scale working with my manager and at a widescale scope within my wider team. The hybrid working style has not suited me so much. Although it is great in terms of saving money, I felt that it hindered my progress on the social side and made meeting other interns quite difficult as extra effort must be put in to meet up.
