    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed the freedom I was given to work. We were set a project and had the ability to take it in whichever direction we wanted.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I was given privileges on the computer and so was able to see customers, and I felt like part of the team, especially when I was able to help improve the customer experience. With regards to the project, all colleagues who I reached out to, to help with my project were supportive and willing to help in whichever way they could.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My managers in branch were very supportive of both my projects and my work in branch. They gave me the freedom to be out of the office when I needed to be gathering data, and also they trusted me to see customers, and gave me access to all the systems I would need to do this. My mentor on the Grad Scheme also gave me great advice and answered my questions whenever I had them.

    3/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was always busy - but you only have work if you seek it out. The internship taught me that I had to ask for work, rather than waiting for someone to give it to me, I could get much more out of it by actively seeking it.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I felt that being allowed to see customers and carry out transactions etc. on accounts was a great deal of responsibility, and made me feel a trusted member of the team.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Rather than specific skills I learnt, the internship taught me the value of being pro-active, and that your learning is entirely in your hands - the more you ask the more you gain.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Very friendly, a real community and team feel to the branch. Everyone supported each other

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was quite well organised once it began, but the pre and post follow ups were pretty poor in terms of contacting us when they said they would.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • They allowed us to go on courses, and also held development days for us, where we were told what we could expect in the future, and what we needed to get there.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 2/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • If you do well, you are invited back for another internship the next summer, and if you do well in that then you are offered a place on the Grad Scheme. They are good at following you through your university career, rather than meeting you once then never again.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The socials between all the interns were great! We met up at least once a week after work and moved around different areas of London going to bars etc. I made some really good friends!

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Being based in Canary Wharf and central London in general it was inevitably expensive to socialise - but definitely worth it!

    1/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There are so many bars around you with different events going on all the time. We were never short of things to do.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • We did a few charity days which was a good opportunity to meet people from across the bank.

    3/5
