    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed the exposure to the different asset classes so I could get an idea of where I would best fit in. I think this is a great way to get interns to get a broader experience.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I got constant feedback from the desks I rotated on. I was told what kind of tasks would be helpful to the desk and so when I completed those, I got the sense that my work was valued and appreciated.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Although the trading floor was extremely busy at times, I always felt like I had the opportunity to speak to my manager and there was always support from not only my manager but also my colleagues on the desk.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I always had something to do. Mostly quick turn around tasks but in-between I would work on longer projects for the desk.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • One of the best parts of this internship is that I was able to carry out tasks which directly helped the desk I was on. Therefore I did feel like I was given a good deal of responsibility as colleagues depending on the accuracy of my work.

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I certainly have come away from the internship a lot more efficient and I have learned how to prioritise better.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • It was a really great atmosphere throughout. Colleagues are always willing to help and explain. I was included in desk social events and was treated as an equal.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Very well indeed. I got both the desk rotations I wanted and all the activities organised by the HR staff was a great way to get to know everyone and relax. The whole 10 weeks was well structured and very professional.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I was always expected to ask questions and learn more about the finance industry and not shy away from my own personal development. I was encouraged to learn as much as I could in the 10 weeks so that I knew what to expect in a full time position. We got regular talks by senior management and also junior staff and therefore got a 360 degree view of the markets business.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised/Company Gym

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I was offered a full time position within Citi starting next year and I am very happy to have accepted. We have been told about the focus on graduates and the drive to hire more and invest in us. Therefore I am very confident that future employment prospects are very positive at Citi.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes, we had regular drinks on a Friday but also had HR organised social events throughout and therefore really had a chance to unwind and relax.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Although canary wharf isn't cheap, the salary from the internship covered living expenses and entertainment costs.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There are great bars and restaurants in the surrounding area and therefore there is always a place to go for a drink with colleagues or go for dinner.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There are many clubs and societies at Citi. Many of these have regular events. I played cricket for my desk against one of the clients which was really enjoyable and when I start full time I will think about getting involved in more sporting activities at Citi
