The Role
I did enjoy this Internship and the amount that I learnt. I was placed in an engineering team and got quite a good amount of experience. I wish that I could have learnt more from it but that could have been the fault of both me and my supervisor.
My colleagues were very helpful and encouraging. They were happy to explain things to me, even if it was just for my own interest.
It was a great balance of training, guidance and independence, was given by my supervisor. If he was away other members of the team were happy to check up on me and what I was doing and to answer any of my questions
I had a good level of work to do. Some days were busy others were more relaxed which was a good balance so that I wouldn't burn out. The variation of my work was ok, but thankfully there was always something to do.
I was incharge of handling the project given to me at the beginning of my internship. It was passed over to me and I was left to do it and to plan meetings about it. I was left to get on with it towards the end and it was very good! I was also given tasks to do to help out my supervisor who would leave me to do something and then he'd check it. So I was given a large amount of responsibility.
I have not gone back to my degree as of yet but I can see that the training I have recieved will help me with future projects to do with things such as design. As having worked in an engineering firm and seeing what I have learnt through my degree on my placement as well as additional learning on my placement, having an impact on the company etc. has helped me see the bigger picture and will help me do so for the rest of my degree and for future jobs. It has given me a good amount of experience which will help me adapt to working life in engineering for the future and just general experience in a working environment.
The Company
Friendly and encouraging. People would both work and have pleasant conversation with each other. There were work activities which I was invited to join in with, even if you didn't know people very well etc. everyone was willing to help out/ have a conversation with you. So there was a good balance and a very good atmosphere, except on the days where there were a lack of people which was for several reasons one being it was in the summer so people were away on holiday quite a bit. So at times it was very quiet and a little dull.
It was quite well organised for me, almost everything that I needed were there on my first day that I arrived. My project had already been thought of and extra bits that I wanted to do/or was offered to me were planned and thought of. I got feedback and checked up on at times through the placement which was very useful. There were times were extra work was hard to come by or do but overall it was very good.
I had a lot of useful training from my supervisor, I learnt quite a bit and better understood my task from it. If my supervisor was away I didn't get to recieve training till he was back. There was no definite plans that each placement student had to have certain training before starting except for general ones. So unless my supervisor felt it good to train me I'm not sure how well I would have been trained.

Getting a job here would be very nice as the people, the place, the work etc, are all really appealing. It looks like a great place to start work. However I am unsure about how the process works about being offered a job after the placement.
The Culture
There was definitely a great social scene between fellow placement students and with colleagues. Everyone was really friendly, more so between the placement students than with colleagues.
It is quite expensive as it in near to London, there aren't many large stores that are easy to get too so its not very cheap. Especially if you are not used to London prices!
There is little to no night life in the area, only pubs and places for dinner which you may go to with colleagues. If you want night life you have to travel into London.
There were some really good outside activites at work, but not too many. Possible reasons being that it was summer so especially in august there were a lot of people going on holiday etc. But when there were things that involved the company or the department I was invited which was really nice.
