    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • My internship was really educational, interesting, and fun! I feel that I have learned a lot in my relatively short time at the company and gained skills that will be useful in the future. In addition, the relaxed and friendly atmosphere and the fact that there were lots of other interns contributed significantly to my enjoyment of the placement.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • During my time at ARM, I was able to work on real projects that will be used by real people. I was able to contribute to shared work and treated like a real member of the team despite the fact that I was only at ARM for a short time.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager didn't 'hold my hand' and I was given a lot of freedom to experiment and discover good ways of doing things but help was always there if I needed it. We had weekly informal meetings to ensure that things were on track but these were by no means the sole port of call if I needed guidance.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was generally busy pretty much all day, every day - not overworked, rather the difficulty and scope of the project were such that there was always something to be getting on with.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was working on a one person project to be used internally by another team. I was given pretty much full responsibility for the design and implementation - again, help was available when it was needed.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I learned good practices for larger software projects, gained experience with new programming languages and technologies and gained some understanding of how large companies work. Definitely a thoroughly useful time

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was very relaxed. Everyone worked hard but there were plenty of chats over coffee and lunch to break up the day and keep things interesting.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I feel that the internship was very well set up. There were good structures in place to support interns such as the 'buddy' scheme where new employees are assigned a buddy from their team to help them out with technical/work related questions...etc. HR were also good at keeping us organised/up to date.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I wasn't given any formal training but was able to ask any of my colleagues for help with things so was able to learn from them through individual instruction which I found very helpful.

    4/5

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • If I were offered a job by ARM, I would almost certainly accept it. As I understand it, there is a large graduate recruitment program so future employment at ARM post graduation is certainly not an impossibility.

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There were a lot of other interns and we often went to lunch together and also frequently went out after work to the pub or the cinema...etc

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Unfortunately, Cambridge is a relatively expensive place to live and socialise in.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Not really my scene but I understand that Cambridge doesn't have the best selection of bars and clubs. However some of the other Interns went on nights out and seemed to enjoy themselves.

    2/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes. There are sports groups and also lots of opportunities to get involved with charity events that ARM participate in.

    4/5
