    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Exceeded my expectations - I didn't want to leave and am looking for ways back into the charity ie grad schemes.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I wasn't expecting the relationships I formed. My managers were managers when it came to work and delegating tasks, but they were friends when it came to tea breaks and catching up on weekend gossip.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Weekly 121s with manager to monitor my project. He also ensured in these weekly meetings that I was on target with my own personal development and objectives. He also enquired about my personal development outside of the internship, such as my experience at my paid job and my preparing myself for my post grad - encouraging me to take time out to apply for funding.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Some days were spent doing admin tasks - however these were discussed in the interview and are an important part of the finishing project. These days felt slower than my research days, but it was nice to have a change of pace and work to mix it up.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • My final project was a piece of research the team actually needed completing for a big campaign and they trusted that I could do it well enough and even gave me the opportunity to present the research to a member of another team!

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • They internship demonstrated the skills I have learnt at University in a new professional environment.

    3/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • My floor was quieter, but second floor was jolly. We even had intern games to keep us engaged.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I had an induction to the charity, an inductions across the wider department and then my personal team. My manager then passed projects on to me.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • My manager ensured every week I took time out to focus on me and not the projects

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Applying for their Grad Scheme for when I have complete my Post Grad, and applying for a volunteer position with them for during my post grad studies. My manager also suggest a job opening I could apply for in the wider team - however I am committed to my post grad studies (but I was tempted)

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Weekly socials organised by us but encouraged by our volunteer leader!

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I commuted to London, so it was more expensive than Midland!

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I commuted - only went for a few drinks after work

    2/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Always emails

    5/5
