  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I had a great time within the Technology division, with challenging work given and various activities and talks to help me improve my knowledge of the finance industry

  • My colleagues, especially the graduates, are willing to share their experiences with me, which I find really useful.

  • My line manager ensured that I was doing what I really wanted during the internship and constantly checked in on me to make sure I'm on track.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I had enough work to do on a daily basis, though at some times I can be slightly free due to dependencies from other colleagues

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given the task to design a report that will actually be used by the front office in the future, which gave me a sense of achievement upon completion. However, I was not directly involved in the day-to-day activities/projects of the team

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The technical skills I have picked up have given me a start in the area of web development, which will greatly assist me in my future career.

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Colleagues were friendly, not too stressful, and willing to help.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • On top of day-to-day work, there was a series of talks and lunch-and-learns that helped me better my understanding of the finance industry. Some of the talks were also technology-focused, which were certainly helpful for those in the technology division.

  • There was a week of professional and technical training at the start and also a presentation workshop during the internship.

  • It seems like there will be a good chance to get on the graduate programme if you perform well during the internship

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Mostly friday night drinks.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Drinks and food are not particularly affordable.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • A couple of pubs in Canary Wharf but they aren't cheap.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There was a corporate social responsiblity event where we helped to do some gardening work in a park, a welcome event, a mid-term dragon boating event and an end-of-internship event.
