    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It was a really good experience which provided a lot of insight into the insurance industry. Everybody was very welcoming and it was a good introduction to what a workplace is like

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Employee development is really pushed at Allianz, so my team were very supportive and always ready to help if I needed it. I worked on a range of projects that benefited different people so felt I was valued by lots of my colleagues

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I cannot fault my line manager - this may be completely down to her as a person rather than Allianz as a company, but she really made us feel welcome in the company, supported us throughout and showed us what a great place it is to work

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • It got better towards the end, but this was the negative aspect of the internship - at the beginning in particular, it felt like they were perhaps not prepapred for three interns in one department, so sometimes I did not have a lot to do, or did not have much of a variation of work.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • We worked on projects that would become business as usual work streams for Allianz even after we left, so this felt like the work we were doing was worthwhile - I did not just too standard 'intern' jobs all the time

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • My confidence grew greatly, particularly with respect to my communication skills (sending business emails etc), and will really serve me well for my future in the job market

    3/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Really friendly and relaxed - perhaps a little more relaxed than we expected - for example, the boys did not have to wear full suits.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship as a whole was very well structured (induction, reviews, final presentation etc), however, my department were not perhaps very well prepared for us which meant that our workload was not as full as we would have liked it.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • They invested a lot - they made sure that we had targets of individual things we wanted to get out of the internship and helped us monitor them through monthly reviews. You got the feeling that they really wanted you to develop as a person and an employee

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very good - they are a good company to work for, the environment is very friendly and it is a successful company that has a good name too

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The interns were split over various offices, so not much scope for social activities, however, the 8 or so who were based in my office in Guildford often made an effort, and we ate together most lunchtimes - I met some really good people.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I am from around the area anyway, so it was normal prices for me, but definitely one of the more expensive areas of the country

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • We tended to go to pubs instead of nightclubs

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There was scope to socialise with other interns, and my team also invited us for drinks after work one day

    3/5
