    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • The scheme was enjoyable with lots of socials, although there was a constant feeling of being assessed in every minute detail and even small mistakes counted heavily. Despite this, most of the lawyers were also very friendly and willing to spend time explaining things to you.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I struggled to find enough work to do at times and one of my supervisors gave me hardly any work meaning I had to really look around. Trainees seemed to take you more seriously.

    2/5

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • Lots of support was given, as we were allocated a trainee buddy as well as a supervisor. However, be careful not to ask too many questions despite what they might initially say.

    3/5

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I don't think I really developed any new skills as such, the experience simply confirmed basic skills such as in presenting and research which I already learnt at university. However, the main skill I learnt about was office etiquette.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The scheme was highly structured and there was some sort of presentation on a department or something similar every day.

    4/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The atmosphere was friendly and everyone on the scheme was very collegial especially on socials.

    4/5

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • 3/5

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • A good insight was generally given. However, having sat in a corporate seat, it was extremely commercial and research based. This was interesting and a good insight, but I got little hands on and practical experience, making it feel like an unbalanced experience. Furthermore, the amount of socials almost seemed too much and that the firm was trying to hard to impress by giving an unrealistically glossy picture of what a full time role at the firm would be like.

    3/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • 4/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • 3/5

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • Pay was £310 a week without tax.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • 3/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • 4/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • Outside opportunities for men included football and for women it included netball. These two options along plus pro bono work seemed to be the only options.

    2/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Despite the faults in the scheme there are some good points and the firm has a strong international brand name. It is for the reason primarily that I would recommend the scheme.

    4/5
