The Role
There was a great atmosphere in the company and I learnt a lot about working life. I was kept busy doing worthwile pieces of work and got along very well with my colleagues.
I felt like an important member of the team and my computing skills were often relied upon. I was made to feel valued and was told I had suppassed expectations.
I was given a lot of support, although occasionally instructions were a bit vague, particularly towards the start of my internship. However, as I progressed through, things became clearer as my knowledge became greater and my boss developed as a mentor.
I was usually kept fairly busy, although occasionally I was left with nothing to do, particularly at the start of my internship when I was only working on one project. On the whole I was kept busy at an enjoyable level, not too hard, not too easy.
I was given plenty of responsibility, both being in possession of sensitive data, and given projects of importance to the company. I ran my own projects and presented to more senior colleagues.
I developed many transferable skills, a great work ethic and became very good with MS Office. My MS Office skills are not likely to help me with my degree, but I imagine they may help me in my future, although I am not looking towards a career in this area.
The Company
It was lively and fairly relaxed, although sometimes it became too relaxed and some of my colleagues seemed a little disruptive taking loud personal phonecalls on a regular basis. Also, a couple of people kept their mobile phones on 'loud' and left them on their desks to ring through.
It was well organised with a dedicated person looking after all the interns. The only issue was the expenses, which took over two months for us to start being reimbursed.
We were given training sessions for our CVs and application forms, which was very informative and useful.
Flexi Time
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
We had the opportunity to apply for jobs during the internship, however this wasn't relevent to me as I am still at university and am not actively looking for a job in this sector.
The Culture
All the interns organised a fundraising event, and there were a few nights out. I became friends with some of the interns in my building but rarely saw interns from other buildings becauce they worked quite far away.
Living was free, but socialising was a more expensive than I'm used to.
The nightlife is good, but I rarely embraced it
There were a few opportunities to volunteer at other events, and there is always something happeningin London.
