The Role
Very involving work to make changes to a very large system, sometimes frustrating, but always challenging.
Team made me feel like the project as entirely my own though always offering guidance.
Team members developing the same application would give me a lot of help and pointers when I got stuck in a particular sub task. I would always feel comfortable asking them for help. Weekly one on one sessions with my manager helped me focus and work efficiently.
My project pretty much took the entire duration of the internship though some days were slower than others due to parts of the system being down or unresponsive.
Working on a feature which had been requested and talked about for some time, and which would actually get used.
Very useful seeing Java code in a large system and learnt many tricks in the Eclipse IDE. Also learnt to use C#/
The Company
Very hardworking and serious environment though I could always stop and have a chat if I wanted. People are willing to put in the extra hours at no thought.
All the intern events and presentations were well prepared in advance.
The let me spend a significant amount of time getting used to their systems as well as their programming techniques. The company also provided basic training for understanding finance and the operations of other divisions within the firm.
Company Parties/Events
I would be thrilled if I could gain permanent employment here.
The Culture
The interns and IPs in the Tech division were all fairly close.
I lived at home during the internship so N/A.
Canary Wharf in the evenings is always very busy.
Lots of events organised by both the Tech division and HR.
