    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Excellent problem solving projects to work on. Disappointed with how long it took me to get certain things done.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt like the main part of my work was worth while, and a valuable thing to do.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given excellent support and advice from not only my manager, but many other members of staff when I needed help on certain issues.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • As above, I believed I was rather slow and so often felt like I had loads of things to do. This is good in that I was never bored and kept constantly busy, but not so good in that I would often worry about things that didn't merit it.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Enough, most of my work affected me alone during my placement, it will only be used by other people when I leave. I did have one opportunity to be involved in a team project however and I was responsible for finding out something and reporting back. In that sense I was responsible for getting something done for a team.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I learned a lot on placement, mainly specific technical things about sensors. This was very interesting, however I can't see myself using such information ever again unless I work here. I rate highly though, because I never believe it's a waste of time learning anything and things I learned might very well find application in some other way - perhaps even in a completely different context!

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Good friendly atmosphere with helpful people. Often quite a busy atmosphere though and can be hard to get people sometimes. Made friends with people of all ages.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The placement was organised well. I was given clear tasks to get involved with and had weekly meetings with my manager. There was some difficulty at the beginning to do with e-mail, admin, phones etc. However, this was probably down to the fact I started at a time when big changes were happening.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company did not invest in me, not monetarily however and I never recieved any training. I give a 3 though, because people did invest time in me by helping me that way. So that counts for something.

    2/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I feel I've learned enough about the company and where I could fit in with the chance of employment in the future.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I've made friends with many of the people around my age at the site, who work in my area. I've also been invited to nights out and what not. Got along well with people.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • It's pretty standard I guess. I have little to compare with since I worked in the same city I live - Glasgow.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Glasgow has a decent night life. Many many different clubs, pubs and bars to choose from. I still find out some I've never been to and found some more on a night out with colleagues.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were many things organised and I received information about these via e-mail. However I felt most of these might be for full-time employees and was not so keen to find out more myself.

    3/5
