    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed working for Thales. Having people that you could get on with on a friend basis as well as a colleague basis made working at Thales a very enjoyable experience.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I think the team value me as a real employee and a friend rather than an under graduate.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The management team was extremely good. If i needed help I never felt like i couldn't ask someone about my problem. They also tried to let me figure things out for myself instead of just spoon feeding me everything which i valued incredibly as it allowed me to learn the system a bit better.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Every now and again there would be a slow income of work because of the work flow. I'm a person that like to be kept busy and I can say that most of the time i've worked at Thales i've been kept busy.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Obviously the longer i'd been working at thales the more responsibility i had been given. By the end of the placement i was working completely independent on a very big change to the system.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I think i've learnt more in my placement year at Thales than i have at university so far. I thin ki will be able to transfer the skills i've learnt from Thales to my degree when I go back to university.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • In the office there is always some fun going on. Always some talking about football or someone having a laugh. That being said you need to organise yourself properly and get your work done. As well as this Thales have a football team where they play after work on a tuesdays which always helps to bring everyone together.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • This placement is set up like any other job. You come in, you learn the basics, then you are given a task to go and complete. This was perfect for me as i just wanted to get my teeth stuck into the work.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Not much training in terms of courses. But like i've said before, if i needed help from any of the members they would take the time to explain the situation rather than just telling me how to fix it.

    2/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    National Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The work was varied and enjoyable and I got the impression that you could make good progress with the company if you show ambition and initiative. Added to that, successful internships are given the opportunity to "fast track" onto the graduate program without going through the assessment process again. making for an appealing prospect post university.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I was not in close contact with the other interns on a day to day level so there was a limted social scene amongst the placement students.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I lived in a 2 bed apartment on my own which is why it was more expensive. But getting into manchester cost about £3 so if you ever wanted to go into the centre of manchester it was cheap.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Non existing in the place i lived. But if i wanted to go out clubbing or to a sociable pub then qwe would always go into manchester and go out there.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I didn't really have time to do anything other than work, football, gym and nights out. But i think there are opportunities to join clubs in cheadle

    4/5
