    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The placement was a great opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of business in general while allowing my understanding of audit to increase vastly. The team were very friendly while the atmosphere in the office was quite young. Nights out and sport were actively encouraged leading to a work hard play hard culture that I very much became a part of.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I didn't feel like an undergraduate who was yet to graduate and therefore in my eyes had only a limited amount to offer. I was treated as a graduate entering with their stream and was asked to complete audit critical activities from early on. My direct superiors valued my input and I was treated as a peer rather than subordinate.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Meetings were organised at my request to discuss any issues that I felt needed clearing up or assistance. I was also given a mentor who would discuss any issues that I was experiencing. My progress was also discussed with senior management and feedback given.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was very busy, particularly during 'busy season' from January to around May were I was on clients sites nearly everyday to see through audit procedures. These days ranged from 9-6 to around 8-9 and longer when closing out. However these were well communicated beforehand and expected. There were of course down days but on the whole the working hours were extended, but who joins audit for the hours.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given responsibility early on, not so much for people but for the processes that are crucial to the audit. Testing was done and my views and judgements trusted by peers and superiors. I was allowed to instruct some interns what to do over the summer but that is as far as I got in term of instructing peers.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I completed some ACA exams which will help for any final finance or accounting year modules. The general business lessons learnt will stay with me throughout my entire working life.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was great, it was young, exciting and vibrant with the senior managers and partners key to get involved. Very much a meritocracy.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • PwC have been taking placements for years, your treated as a graduate and they are very aware how to manage you.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I have completed 6 ACA exams and gone on many external courses, developing me as a person but also the skills that I now have. This was to great expense of the company and was much appreciated as was the time off to study for the exams, this is industry standard however.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I have been offered a graduate position, after an interview with a partner with whom I'd already worked.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Many clubs and sports that were brilliant to be a part of. Many nights out with other graduates and interns. However, the best part were the end of audit parties were the company credit cards took a heavy load.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I lived at home so was used to London prices. However, nights out are cheap if you know the right spots or night. In the most part though 4 pounds a pint is very standard.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • London has it all and depending on the night there are a multitude of options. Although as mentioned they are sometimes very expensive especially of a placement salary. Pubs in and around the offices were very good too.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes volunteering options were offered and I spent at least 3 work days within the local community on numerous different outings. Apart from this the very intensive nature if the work and exams meant that there was limited amount of time for such activities.
