    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I was in the Support Office, I was given a project and a lot of responsibility over the 8 weeks and through my project I was given the opportunity and encouraged to explore the company and network.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Everyone was very supportive and the office had a friendly, sociable atmosphere. It was easy to meet with people if you sent them an email and they were always happy to tell you about their job or help you with your project.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I had weekly catch ups with my manager, line manager and buddy, they answered any questions- personal or project.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • It varied from project to project. Some days you were very busy, others there wasn't much to do project wise, but there were always opportunities to do something to enhance personal development.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility, I communicated with stakeholders, visited external organisations, led briefings at meetings and was able to manage my time independently.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I can now speak more confidently and my presentation skills have improved. I have a wider understanding of the business world and what my career preferences will be.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Everyone worked hard but were very friendly and got along well.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The initial stages were very poorly organised in terms of the application stages and assessment centre and it was very hard to get in touch with anyone.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Tesco are very keen on personal development and this was shown through induction days, development days and team competitions each week.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • There are opportunities to be on the grad scheme but we are waiting to hear back from them about that when they have made their decision.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Social events were not organised by Tesco but there was around 55 interns across the company and many of us arranged things in the evenings.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I lived in Finsbury Park, North London as its 10 minutes from central London and 20 minutes to work. It is a fairly cheap area for London (£120 per week) and a lot more fun than living in Hertfordshire.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Awful. But London is close by.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • If you arranged them yourself with other interns which is easy enough to do as there is a facebook group.

    4/5
