    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • My colleagues were really helpful and encouraged me to work to the best of my ability.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Everybody was very friendly, and my team really worked together, assigning me tasks within current projects which made me feel like the work I was doing was worthwhile.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager was very supportive, always offerign help when needed, and assigning me challenging tasks that made my job interesting and worthwhile.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Some days were very busy with lots of assigned work, whereas other days would be spent working on my self directed projects at my own pace.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • The charts and graphs I presented to my team were later used in their quarterly report, and I was assigned a team member's work when they went on holiday, so I was given quite a lot of responsibility. However, I was supported by my team with everything I did, and all my work was checked before it was used.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I learned how to work in a team, communication skills, skills in how to construct a report and write analytically (more useful than you could imagine!) and I learned an awful lot about finance which will be useful in every day life in understanding the economy and with future career prospects.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was very friendly and fun, but everyone was very hardworking and it encouraged good concentration and focus.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • My team had organised my projects very well, and work had always been organised for me to do which was great. I think the admin side could have been slightly more organised, but overall I think they were pretty on the ball.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Very much so, five lectures were put on in the course of my placement to educate us in finance, and all colleagues were happy to give up their time to explain, help and assist with our work.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Company Parties/Events

    1/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • They would be a great company to work for in terms of them investing time and money in you (they pay for the actuarial exams you take) although I think you could do a very similar job elsewhere that paid more and gave more perks.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There weren't many interns and so having a good social scene was hard, but the people that were working there were great, and we often had nights out and dinners together.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Very high. I managed to find a cheap university accomodation room, but lots of my friends ended up paying insanely high rent, and with the high cost of everything in London, and the low salary we were paid, it didn't work out well for some.

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The clubs and pubs are all filled with bankers, which is a great scene for straight after work and then into the night, but going home and coming back is a no no, as is trying to go out at the weekend - no one there! Go more into central London for that.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • We had lots of free corporate events that we could attend, with free food and free drink; organised drinks with other companies; rounders, cricket and football tournaments (inter and intra company); and BBQs with your team.
