    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The placement at Mercer UK was very enjoyable. You get to learn a lot of things alongside, everyone at Mercer is helpful and makes sure you have the best time possible during your placement.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Mercer makes you feel valued. On my first day my Manager introduced me to the whole team and all of them were friendly. They invited me to join them for lunch everyday. Moreover, you get appreciated for the work you do.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager was always accessible. She sat 2 rows next to me in the office which made her approachable. She was always happy to help me with anything I would need.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Most days included repetitive tasks that I would do in the morning. The rest of the day mostly was ad-hoc with some days being busy. However, in general I would say the workload is quite manageable and you never feel overwhelmed. I would however, at times like to have been given some more work.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was not given too much responsibility during my placement. However, I was in charge of the Weekly internal newsletter which would be sent out to all colleagues. This however, was subject to review by my manager before sending it out. So don't expect full autonomy during your placement.

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I worked at the Internal communication department which meant writing newsletter and sending them out weekly. I study Business administration, so the work I did did not really match up to my subjects I take at Uni. However, It did help me gain a perspective into how business' operate.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The general atmosphere in the office was informal, friendly and helpful.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The overall placement was not well organised. My work was ad-hoc and I had problems with receiving payroll during the first months.

    2/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company provides you with videos that you watch on your first day. These are related to the company's policies and rules. There are about 5 of them. We also had one personality seminar, in which you were evaluated on your personality. But that was about it, not too much training.

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes, I had 2 other students from my University who worked there. We did not spend too much time with each other. We barely knew there were other students on placement for the first 2 months.

    1/5
