  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?

    • Really enjoyable--good balance of work and fun.

    • Very open, friendly people. They went out of their way to give me tasks and explain their work to me.

    • I was given tasks by myself but I could always ask them questions.

    • I learned a lot about the particular department I was in, which will be useful for future applications and choosing areas of law to train in.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?

    • A good balance of work shadowing and activities, weighted quite a bit towards work shadowing (which I personally found to be a good thing). I was given plenty to do, though at times had to be proactive in order to get more interesting work.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?

    • Hard-working but not tense; fun-loving in the evenings.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?

    • Besides the work shadowing, useful seminars on contracts/drafting, negotiation, etc. Hard to comment on long-term investment though because they don't interview for a training contract off the spring vac scheme.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?

    • Working and going to events in the evening gave me a good idea.

    • Spending most of the time work shadowing meant that we were given a more accurate portrayal of the company culture (as opposed to what is just shown at recruitment sessions).

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?

    • Standard vac scheme pay.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?

    • Speed networking and a few drinks meetings, although we only sat in one department.

    • Relaxed and enjoyable; everyone was very friendly.

    • Not as much as I should have-- I'm not sure I really asked.

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?

    • Yes-- very good insight into the firm's culture and the particular department you sit in; doesn't feel too pressurized either (perhaps because there isn't an interview at the end).
