Overview
During the scheme, I spent time working in two different departments, conducting a range of tasks to meet business needs. This included contract and term sheet drafting, research tasks, and case chronologies. Students on the scheme were also invited to attend various presentations, from trainee Q&As, D&I talks and pro bono sessions to emerging technology discussions (to make a few).
Skills
The scheme was formidable in allowing me to develop multiple new skills. Specifically, I was afforded insight into contract drafting, along with taught how to create a case chronology, and case bundle. Furthermore, the scheme was a great opportunity to develop existing skills such as organisation, communication, teamwork and attention to detail. For example, students were set a case study exercise, involving a presentation, alongside their work commitments.
Business Insight
The scheme was set up to include multiple presentations which allowed students to receive a real insight into the inner workings of the firm and their strategic areas of legal advice. This was both insightful and interesting, as presentations were conducted in an engaging style, drawing on attendees to enhance understanding.
Culture
The company culture was hard-working, but incredibly friendly and fun. Everyone I met was fully engaged and interested in any questions I had, which made for a comfortable and enjoyable experience. This is aligned with the supportive culture of the firm, which was obvious when working in the office.
Your Impressions
I throughly enjoyed the insight. I thought it was a great mix of both information and actual legal work, allowing you to develop important skills whilst also learning about the firm. Furthermore, the people I was able to work for on the scheme really enhanced my experience, as they involved me in a real range of tasks, and were genuinely caring and supportive.
Yes
It's always good to attend an event hosted by the firm, this way you can meet people and gain a real insight into how the firm operates which will help you to put forward a well-informed application.
