    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • A really great first insight into the professional world. The jobs that I had to do had a good range and everyone was really friendly.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • No one took me for granted and there was always many 'thank you's for the work I did.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager was amazing! We had weekly catch up sessions on my previous week and plans for the coming week, while I was always welcome to grab her or email her inbetween. She supported as I needed on my individual projects and was really helpful with improving my CV and helping with some of my applications for Grad Schemes.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Mostly there was a really great balance as I was either supporting team projects or working on multiple own projects so there was always plenty to do. Towards the end of the internship I was really busy trying to wrap everything up, but that was great because I felt I got a lot out of the experience.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • It varied, some tasks were pretty basic but the kind of smaller tasks that did need to be done, while other tasks, particularly those for my individual projects required more responsibility.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I've found that I have a lot more to talk about in my applications now, from a variety of different aspects of the internship. I'm definitely really pleased with how much I've gotten out of the experience and have been able to see improvements in the skills that I went in wanting to develop.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Everyone was really friendly, across the whole CRUK staff everyone seemed pretty relaxed, but my team in particular were always having a laugh. Even during a really intense work period when everyone in the team would be working till really late and looking pretty stressed, they were still able to have a laugh with each other more than I would have expected.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • it was good, the scheme organiser kept it all together pretty well and there were various review process at set points throughout the internship to make sure everything was on track.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There were mentoring schemes available that you could take advantage of, we were given packs to keep a record of competencies we built each week and to go over this with our manager. We also had a day dedicated to CVs, cover letters and interviews where we went over different examples etc, as well as a 1:1 chat with someone from HR about our cv etc.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would have liked to stay on but no entry level positions within my team so that was not possible.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was a good intern culture with plenty of socialising during the day and lots of people went out for drinks etc after work too. Colleagues were also really friendly and we did go out after work occasionally.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Central London is not cheap! But certainly for things like lunch, if you knew where to go then you could definitely find cheap, but good options. Would particularly recommend trips down chapel market down the road.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • 3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • 4/5
