The Role
I changed projects after 6 months of this placement which gave me a range of experiences and learning curves. I was frequently trusted with much responsibility and not made to feel like "just an undergraduate." The atmosphere in the office both on a professional level and socially was fantastic.
My department was excellent for this as it was smaller than other departments and every one had a lot of responsibility.
My line manager offered me a lot of guidance and support and always ensured I had enough work at a challenging level. Unfortunately due to sickness my line manager was absent for the last 3 months of my placement, luckily I had enough work that this was not detrimental to my placement but it would have been nice to be officially assigned a new line manager.
Some days/ weeks very very busy, working long hours and overtime when a deadline was coming up. But this was balanced by less busy weeks at other times.
I always felt like a very valued member of the team and it only increased throughout the placement until I was even trusted to present at international workshops and attend video conferences as a UK representative.
The technical and scientific skills I learnt, such as MatLab, are highly useful now I have returned to university. Furthermore, the professionalism and experiences I gained from attending international workshops will be useful in any future employment.
The Company
A good balance of working hard and a friendly, fun atmosphere. Always felt that you could ask for help or advice.
I had a project to work on and a definitive role as soon as I started the placement then could eventually chose my own project to work on after a few months. I always had sufficient challenging work to fill my time.
I was sent on a couple of training courses that were useful however the ones I really needed at the start of my placement didn't happen due to HR issues.

A great company to work for with an interesting, well structured grad scheme that is respected among the engineering sector. The only thing that put me off is that it can be quite an "old" company and it can seem hard for young employees to bring in fresh ideas that are accepted and followed through.
The Culture
The undergraduate and graduate social life was brilliant. My department was also very socialable.
Bristol isn't the cheapest city but it is very fun! A little mini London!
Bristol is great!!
I was involved in an outreach project going into a local school to assist them build a glider, this was great for personal development and will help on the way to chartership.
