The Role
Overall the job was OK but it was done during the year before university and I feel both my manager and I both felt I didn't have enough technical knowledge to provide much helpful input on engineering (my degree subject) projects
Colleagues were really nice and the work I could do, producing macros for microsoft excel, was highly valued
Manager was really helpful and asked which departments I would like to work for during my placement and tried t get me at least a week's experience in the areas I wanted to work
Switched between being very busy and totally free from work throughout the placement
On the projects I could do I was given free reign but they tended to be tasks that enabled other jobs to be done more quickly rather than the sort of engineering based tasks I was hoping for
I think the experience of working in an engineering office was really useful and confirmed that engineering is a career I would like to continue in
The Company
Friendly co-workers but the office was expanding constantly during my time there meaning people were getting slightly fed up of greeting new staff and showing them the ropes
Very well organised and I got a chance to gain at least some understanding of all the departments I have an interest in
No real training while I was there
Flexi Time
Company Parties/Events
Very encouraging about me coming back to work for them again but I would rather work on different projects as I am more interested in planes than submarines
The Culture
I was the only placement student in my office
