    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • the internship was my first experience in such an environment, the program allowed me to experience many different areas of KPMG. This in itself was very fulfilling and enjoyable as it gave a real insight as opposed to a training programme.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • This varied with each team, but I found that I was valued more when I made the initiative to contribute more where I could - as it should be!

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given exceptional levels of guidance, after all I was directly involved in each project (often on client site around London and the country), my understanding of the work therefore becomes a requirement for the completion of the work to a high standard.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Again, this varied very much by team!

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I got the feeling that I could dictate how much responsibility I could take very often. Its a question of how much you are willing to learn and put in for the team!

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Because of the degree of independence involved, I was able to learn so much in terms of time management and communication with the right people. the work was extremely varied, so other skills that I have greatly improved include analytics, numeracy and motivation during tough periods

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • KPMG is often based on client site, this depends very often on where you are based and (again) the team in which you are based. The vibe around the central office in Canada square was superb, a very laid back, yet professional atmosphere (think discussing assignments in a lounge-like environment with unlimited coffee refills etc).

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I am not sure if the degree of independence given to the interns is reflective of any organisational factors of the vacation scheme itself.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • while there was no formal development initiatives from KPMG such as a training program (for audit), development and understanding came rapidly on-the-job.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I keep in touch with many of my colleagues still despite waiting on word from KPMG as to my fate next year

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There is time for interns to help each other out, so you are able to get on well and see each other often

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • It's London, extremely expensive

    1/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Nightlife is non existent in Canary wharf, however I felt dis-included from the larger (summer) intern social scene during the summer.

    1/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • KPMG has so many team/department based events etc, perfect.

    5/5
