    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • This involved work shadowing, learning about what Audit is. There was a large focus on networking with people in certain groups. For example, I was in the social mobility group so we heard from speakers and then conducted presentations and workshops based on encouraging social mobility into KPMG and the industry. We had talks from Partners, Senior Managers and Directors where we were able to ask questions to a pannel fo speakers. We would also have lunch in the canteens etc to get a feel of what it wopuld be like to work at KPMG

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I definitely learned much more about AI, this is because their Audit department is super involved with AI and technology, I also learned about the importance of company culture and how down to earth those above you can be. I definitely improved my confidence as part of the process too, whether this being talking to strangers or by networking with new people i feel it really helped me develop my skills before I step into the corporate environment again

    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • It would've been good to learn about all of the different sectors too. I'm aware that i applied to Audit but i would like to know more about the others before i decide my career projection. I definitely learned how easy it is to move around within KPMG and the different roles available. They explained well with clarity how I can progress through the "grades" at KPMG and how long it would take to do that retrospectively

    Culture

  • 4. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • I was a little disappointed with some of the assessors from the London office. For example, we had to do a group discussion and the assessors sat there not looking up from their laptop once and when we asked questions to them about their day etc they were very blunt. i looked across at other tables and it was the complete opposite so i wouldn't say that is reflective of company culture i think i just got unlucky

    Your Impressions

  • 5. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I enjoyed the majority of it, I remember after the first day hoping i could get more stuck-in and learn more about Audit itself. this is because the first day focused almost entirely on social mobility whereas i was searching for hands-on Audit experience. The second day was much better and was great as I was work shadowing. I had a great time because i was outgoing and networked so i was able to make friends. Final day, everyone was stressed but i did enjoy showing what i can do

  • 7. Would you recommend KPMG to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to KPMG
  • I would say definitely learn about AI and technology as it was incredibly heavy at times on that. make sure you have grown your network before you go, such as using LinkedIn etc as it will really help. Make sure you are happy and presentable, and when it comes to the dress code, "smart casual" wasn't really followed by many of the people there as they wanted to wear suits so I would wear formal business attire so you fit in
