    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Superb internship. Managed to do such much in the 6 weeks, far beyond what i expected

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • As long as you are willing to get stuck in from the start you will be appreciated it. Managed to get involved in a wide range of tasks there meeting and working alongside many different people

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The support all the way through was first class. From having an initial meeting and tour of the store to weekly meetings with my line manager. He also ensured that i got a real insight into the roles and responsibilities he had. At the end of the placement i presented back to senior management and was again given feedback and guidance for the future.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • This really varied from day to day. Somedays would be non stop while others were fairly slow. However this is the nature of retail so it gives you a realistic insight into the business. On top of this due to having individual projects to complete there was always something i could be getting on with. On top of this the times when it was quiet were a good opurtunity to speak to different members of the team.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • To begin with it was very much a case of shadowing partners to understand what the role entails. However very quickly i was been given real responsibility and clear tasks and goals that needed to be achieved. This was again superb as it allowed for a more realistic look at what management positions at John Lewis require and expect.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills learnt will not only help in terms of studying in the future but are also useful across most job roles due to the heavy emphasis on communication, customer interaction and time management.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Brilliant atmosphere across the store, really positive place to work. Staff feel valued and comfortable talking to senior management across the branch

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Again very good. The program was very clearly laid out, with weekly tasks that needed to be completed. Constant feedback and meeting with my mentor ensured that it was always focused. Further to this head office were also in contact to ensure the smooth running of the placement.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Lots of time invested by all levels of partners in the branch. Time was put aside on a weekly basis to meet different sections of management to gain an understanding of what there roles were. Even setting up visits to other stores to meet recommended personal.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
