Selling Assistant Review

Yes I very much enjoyed my work placement. I was doing a selling assistant role that was involved in following what the department manager was doing to develop my skills. I think that this was a very good opportunity and I feel that I learnt a lot. I would reccommend it to people.

Yes I did feel valued by my colleagues. I really got on well with the people that I worked with. They were all very friendly and welcoming and make me feel valued with what I was doing. They were very helpful if I had any questions and keen to support.

I feel that the scheme was very good at ensuring that I was supported by a manager. As I was shadowing the department manager this meant that I was given lots of advice by them and was able to see how they worked with their colleagues and get a good insight.

On a day to day basis I was busy, but not overworked and therefore this was a good balance because there was always a lot to do to keep the work interesting. however, there was not too much pressure because the workload was manageable and therefore it was a good balance.

I was not given that much responsibility during my placement as I was mainly shadowing the manager and therefore did not have as much opportunity to have a go directly myself with this role. Although I was still given tasks below the managers level that helped me develop my skills.

I think that the training I received and the skill set I developed as a result of doing this was very different to that of my degree and therefore this was good to have something else to put on my degree. However, it did not directly help with my degree.

The atmosphere in the work place was generally very good. The team was very supportive of each other and this meant there was lots of positivity and this helped keep everyone productive and working hard. I think that people were very friendly and I felt very welcome in the environment.

The work placement was overall pretty well organised. It was good because I was shadowing the manager and this meant that the structure of her day was transferred to what I was doing and therefore this meant that it was well organised and there was always something that I could be doing.

I think the company invested a reasonable amount in me. Although I would say that because I was shadowing someone it was not directly an investment for the company because they did not have to pay someone extra money to train me. However, this was still good because the manager had lots of experience.

I think that because I would not be using my degree directly if I were to work with this company in the future that is not so appealing for me. However, I did learn lots of useful skills that I will take with me to my future job and therefore this was good.

Yes the social life was very good within the company. There were a few team meals that were organised within our department and these were really good fun. Also there was a subsidised work Christmas party, which again was a real laugh and brought everyone closer together as a team.

The cost of living was quite high in the area because it was in London and therefore it was cheaper for me to commute to work than to rent somewhere out in London. Socialing again was more expensive because is was London and therefore this aspect was not so good.

The nightlife was very good in this area being in London as there was an abundance of restaurants, bars, clubs and lots of other social places that people went to after work. The downside to this was that because it was in London it was expensive to go to these places.

Yes the company was really good and organised some team building exercises outside work which was really good fun. These were subsidised by the company and were a really good way to get to know people better and improve the moral in the work place. I would definitely recommend this.
