    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed the experience and have learnt a lot and gained confidence in my problem solving. Although the industry would perhaps not have been my first choice to work in initially having had the experience it is something that I would now consider for my graduate career.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Everyone made an effort to be friendly towards me and were happy to show me what they were doing and answer any questions I had.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My line manager was only working part time for some of my project but when he was in always made time to provide advice.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Some days were quite slow as there were limited tasks I could help with. However, others were quite busy so on average I was kept occupied.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given tasks or problems to solve and then left to device a solution or get quotes from suppliers for these. I was responsible for producing several lifting procedures and reviewing the maintenance sheets from the team.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have developed my ability to read engineering drawings and now have a greater appreciation of the practical application of engineering design. This will help me approach problems in the future from both a theoretical and on site perspective.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • There was a good atmosphere in the office and people were up for a laugh.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I only found out where I was to be based a day before my internship was due to start despite having confirmed I would be working with them months in advance. Fortunately I was able to push back the start date my a week in order to make accomodation arrangements as I was new to the area.

    1/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • As it was only a short placement there was not much time for training. However people were willing to let me see how things worked and explain if I asked.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would consider applying for a graduate job with the company.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The students were spread out over the country so this was not possible.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • As I was working in a popular holiday town in the summer then accomodation was expensive as was socialising

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The project was near Brighton and so there were plenty of restaurants pubs and bars around to sociailise in.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There was usual some sort of outside work socialising every two weeks or so and this really helped me bond with other members of the team outside my office.

    4/5
