    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my 11 month placement with PwC. I was given the same responsibilities as a graduate, and completed 8 of my ACA exams during my time with the firm. I got the opportunity to work in Paris, and various cities over the UK, and my work was varied so I never got bored or found the job repetitive. I spent a lot of time dealing with clients which I enjoyed, and my clients were in industries I found interesting. I also was offered a graduate position within the firm, which takes the stress of applying for jobs in my final year away.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt very valued by colleagues as I was treated like an associate. I got the opportunity to work with colleagues at all levels, and always felt valued.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was always given support and guidance, and felt completely comfortable going to senior members of staff to ask questions.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was very busy on a daily basis, however as I found the job interesting I did not mind.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility during my placement. At the end of the year I completed an entire audit by myself (only for a small firm!) but I was given plenty of development opportunities and I always had managers and colleagues I could go to for support if I felt I had taken on too much.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I developed my interpersonal skills as I was dealing with clients on a daily basis at all levels within companies. I developed teamwork skills, as I was put into a variety of teams over my placement working with colleagues at different levels of the firm, and also teams of different sizes. However the most important skills I have developed have been my time management and revision skills. I have been on a number of time pressured jobs, and the ACA exams are not easy! So I have had to improve my revision techniques and management skills which will help me during my final year at university.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was good. There are busy and quiet times during the year, but my colleagues were always friendly and we had several socials throughout the year.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • As you practically complete the first year of the graduate scheme, you are integrated with the new grads and so the scheme works very well.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I have sat 8 of my ACA exams, and was offered a lot of training and development opportunities. I was allowed to work on the clients I wanted to work on, and given a lot of responsibility to help my personal development.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • International Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    2/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I will return to PwC in September 2014.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I have made a lot of friends I will keep in touch with throughout my final year.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I was based in Sheffield, which is cheaper than other big cities and as I lived in the city centre taxis home were always very cheap!

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife in Sheffield is good! I prefer Leeds or Manchester, but it is a smaller city so there isn't as much going on.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • PwC have numerous sports teams, socials, volunteering opportunities etc.
