The Role
Despite the occasional bump, supportive people and a great working environment made Boots a highly enjoyable year of work.
When HR tell you Boots is one team, they aren't kidding. The first few weeks working in store was like adopting a new family, then again while at the head office.
Weekly 1-2-1's, plus the ability to simply ask questions and for support when in a jam. Mentors and buddies are also easy to set up.
Due to the nature of the role (project based), some lulls were inevitable as one project completed and the next spun up, however these were never for long.
Moved onto multi-million project within 2 months, then running service management for entire program by month 7.
Feel extremely confident in moving to final year, and very much looking forward to finishing university with a bang before having the best start into the jobs market with Graduate roles.
The Company
Boots has a very casual atmosphere, and few meetings take place in actual meeting rooms.
First year it has run, so some teething troubles around making people aware. Otherwise, went very well.
Consistently spaced training days, alongside the ability to take an extra qualification such as ITIL/PRINCE2, etc.
Flexi Time
National Travel
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Working from home
Healthcare from home
Got a graduate place with Boots. So quite good.
The Culture
You meet the other students early, as well as getting to know the other talent groups such as graduates and apprentices.
Nottingham isn't the most expensive of places, but it's not the cheapest either. However the wage is more than needed, allowing for some saving alongside blowing it all on Internet and alcohol.
Extremely varied, but as with any city, can get crowded at the nicer places. Never stuck for somewhere to go though.
Children in Need. Macmillan. Iron Man triathlon. Reading in local schools. Dragons Den with local kids. The list just keeps going on.
