    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I have enjoyed the vast majority of my placement. Naturally in any job, there will be things that are less enjoyable than others, but on the whole I am very happy with my experience. The option for different opportunities is there.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I have been a critical member of several teams, providing work which is in use in the "Real World". I also received a lot of positive feedback which boosted my confidence and sense of worth within the company. I was welcomed into each team instantly, with no awkwardness at all.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My Management have been extremely present in my day to day work, checking up on me regularly in regards to my work and how I'm feeling personally. I genuinely feel they care about me outside of the workplace.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Moderately. I had days where I needed to actively go out and find work to do, but also days where I seemed to have mountains of work to get through!

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • It really depended on my team and what was going on at the time. for the most part - lots I have done work which has been implemented in the "real world" and has made a difference to customers, as well as working on big hardware changes for stores.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have experienced several different departments within IT and from that, deduced what it is I like and don't, which has influenced what I imagine my career path to be when I leave Uni. I have also done training in programming to improve those skills.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The general atmosphere in the office is very light-hearted. There are plenty of jokes, but work is still taken seriously.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • to start with - not good. A mis-communication between departments meant they were not ready for me to arrive. as such, it took a few weeks for me to actually have everything I needed and some work to do. once set up - I had no issues with it.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I did plenty of personal development exercises such as "Total SDI" and "myers briggs". I also did till training and programming training.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Working from home

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very, Personally I would like to experience a different company when I finish university, but I would have no problems in returning to Boots

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Nothing was really organised between colleagues in my team outside of work but I regularly met the other Year in Industry students for drinks and a catch up.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Not too high. A pint averages at £3.80, food was good value too.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Really good, Nottingham has plenty of good bars and clubs

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There are a number of opportunities but you have to go and find them. They are not advertised very well.
