The Role
The placement was enjoyable and interesting but had its problems.
I was surrounded by a brilliant team who supported me and helped me, unfortunately only my line manager represented Costain because of this i never really obtained an incite into the Costain work culture.
My line manager and other supervisors were excellent, they were top engineers who were very knowledgeable and extremely nice.
Due to some of the organisation problems there were times where i would have a large amount of work to get my teeth into but other times i had none at all for days.
When i received work i was given a large amount of responsibility and trusted with important work.
The placement has helped to guide me in my next steps with studding and beyond.
The Company
A very professional atmosphere but everybody was approachable and helpful.
The work placement organisation was very much not on the seamless side, our work contracts and location of placement arrived very late and didn't allow for much time to get yourself organised. My placement was a very large distance from where i live and i had no idea of the location and with very limited time to arrange accommodation it made the process very stressful. with the placement itself i was in a location that required a lot of security paperwork and this had been arranged far to late because of this i never obtained full access to my site, I instead had to have limited time on site when i could obtain it, this was incredibly disappointing as i had traveled a great distance to the placement.
I believe this placement is the firm investing in us for personal development so i believe they are doing a lot.
Healthcare/Dental
Costain is a good company and they look after there staff well they are trying to become a all in one solutions provider for the construction industry which gives them a promising future.
The Culture
At the site where i was based i was the only student and my site was in a very desolate and isolated location so there wasn't much social life.
The area was a standard price.
As mentioned before not much nightlife.
There were no activities outside of the workplace that had been mentioned to me at anytime.
