    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It was an insightful experience with a good emphasis on networking and learning. There are a lot of networking events which allow you to intergrate with your intern class and also current RBS employees. The internship works as a rotation system so we have a chance to try different roles e.g. Trading v Sales v Research v Structuring. Also, we can get exposure to different divisions e.g. Credit v FX v Rates

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Bearing in mind the current job climate, it was hard to get contact hours with a lot of employees as they were more interested in keeping their jobs than making time for interns. That said, the majority of the people were available and were very accomodating over any follow up questions

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given projects at the start of each rotation with rough guidelines over what was required and timing deadlines. Could have done with more direction for a more efficient allocation of my time

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • For my first rotation, I was busy from 7-8pm everyday. My second rotation was a bit more relaxed mainly due to the lack of flow over summer 2013

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • It is hard to instil responsibility given that we didn't have an FSA. However, we were given projects that would have added value to our desks

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The training at the beginning of the internship gave us a broad bit wsignificant understanding of Fixed Income that will be useful given a career in this industry as it wasn't specific to RBS. The ability to work and engage with senior people given the horizontal structure at RBS enabled me to have a valuable insight into the applicability of my degree in the career path I want

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • A lot of "banter" was encorporated into the everyday worklife. Probably helped that the Ashes was on as well so that kept a good work/ social balance

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • In summary, there was a very good system in place where any issues we had would be dealt with efficiently. There was a good mix of social and work events that were career focussed and got us to think about our next steps after university

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There were a lot of courses that were ran from a one week program teaching technicals, excel classes, bloomberg tutorials and technical analysis sessions

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • 3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • 4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Having grown up in London, I had already priced in the high costs of living so it wasn't really much of an issue

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • 5 mins from Shoreditch. Decent.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Sports

    4/5
