The Role
I enjoyed aspects of the internship but there were days I did not enjoy when I was sat watching others do tasks or there was little work for me to do. I also enjoyed some teams more than others (I spent around 2 weeks in each of the different teams with different lines of business and new business)
All the staff were really grateful for whatever work I helped them out with.
Given 4 and 8 week feedback sessions which were helpful as well as meetings with each team leader before and after each time period spent in each team
This was dependent on the team, most of the time I was given work to do but there were some days when there was nothing I could help out with so I sat and watched others do the tasks.
As I moved round the different teams, there was really sufficient time to train me to do some of the more difficult tasks so I wasn't given much responsibility. I think it would have been more beneficial to stay in one team and maybe spend a day in each of the different ones.
I have gained a real valuable insight into insurance and I feel it will help with my Economics degree and a wider understanding of the economy and importance of the insurance sector.
The Company
It was a really nice office - sometimes quite quiet but everyone was willing to help if I needed anything.
We had regular correspondence from the scheme leader letting us know where we were up to and what needed to be done. The induction on the first day with all the other interns was really helpful as well as a couple of other days spent with all the other interns - one careers day detailling the different graduate opportunities and one day where we presented what we had done to each other.
As it is a busy time of the year as many people are away on holiday, people didn't have much spare time to help to train me as they had large workloads themselves and it wasn't really beneficial to train me as I only spent a maximum of 2 weeks in that specific team. However, all travel was paid for down to the events with other interns including overnight accomodation where required and all food paid for as well. We also had 3 days holiday which was very good.

Company Parties/Events
There are a variety of different grad schemes which they encourage you to apply for and I think you may get some exemptions from some of the recruitment stages although I have just finished first year so I'm not thinking about applying for anything just yet!
The Culture
There was a summer party but I couldn't attend. I think Head Office in Guildford has more of a social scene as there are more interns and grads down there.
It is a cheap city, I just commute in so not sure about living costs.
Been on a few nights out here (although not with work) and it is a really good night - especially for students.
There were quite a few charity events in the office but not much else really.
