    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I definitely enjoyed the internship, it allowed me to learn a lot about the corporate atmosphere of a culturally complex conglomerate.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Literally family, but I was lucky to have been put in a team with similar temperament and humour to myself.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given support, and although guidance was available I think I could have been given more formal learning opportunities to allow me to perform far better at my work. Samsung needs to work on developing its interns, aiming to help them learn as much as act as normal employees in a full time job. But they are working on it...

    3/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The European organisation had a lot of up and down times, work was not always stable, and rest periods were well received.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • A lot of responsibility. At Samsung, you act as a full-fledged employee of the company.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Without a doubt the best learning experience, more management and leadership skills development would have been great, but it has allowed me to align my priorities.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Depended on the day... Not oppressive, but definitely not liberal.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • We were employees rather than interns, a great learning, but there was no defined learning structure. My main criticism of a placement as I believed they should work to develop the student more.

    1/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Not much. Another prime criticism. The team will do their best to benefit you but, all in all, the internship isn't focused on developing the students....

    1/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    National Travel

    International Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Above 25 days holiday

    Healthcare from home

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Great, if you work well they will want you back.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • With some yes, but it wasn't cohesive. This depends on the year though.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The surrey area is very expensive but, the most important factor is that the office is based in more or less the middle of nowhere.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Lots of geese. Pretty much it.

    1/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There did not seem to be many initiatives to notify colleagues about extra-company activities between colleagues.
