The Role
While i have nothing to compare against, this placement has given me a brilliant outlook into insurance and i have enjoyed every day of the internship.
The people within my team have been extremly helpful with any problems i have had. Additionally everyone in the office was very welcoming and made me feel like part of the overall team and not just an intern on a short term palcement.
My line manager was extremly helpful and just like everyone in the office was happy to help with any issue.
In general i would spend a morning or afternoon with someone from the office and they showed me how they did things and why. I was also given real work to get on with which meant i didnt spend my time doing nothing at my desk and allowed me to contribute to the team.
There is obviously only so much that i could be allowed to do in 9 weeks as much of the work in the branch relied on built up relationships with brokers. However i still had tasks and work to get on with that had to bbe completed so other people could complete their work which gave me the feel of real responsibilty.
There is no doubt that the 9 weeks i spent with Allianz will assist me in my working life and my final year at university. The obvious advatanges of learning time management and how to lialise in meetings/broker visits etc will help me going into the future. Additionally i became much more confident and adept using excel which is essential in many jobs.
The Company
The atmosphere was very social and down to earth. We had dress down on Fridays which everyone enjoyed. Also a large proportion of the team would go out togetehr for lunch or go out after work which was great for me to involve myself in the team.
My line manager used the experiance of the two previous summer interns to set up a very structured 9 week work guideline for me to follow. This was flexible though so if any potential /opportunity issue came up it would be ok to fit into the plan.

Company Parties/Events
Allianz takes the subject of internships and graudate schemes very seriously. The interns are given every opportunity to apply for jobs on the graduate scheme and many of these applicants are successful.
The Culture
The office had two graudates that had just come out of university who knew the area well and were very sociable. Additionally the colleagues i worked with of all ages were up for going out/going to the pub etc which made it a brillaint social environment.
Bristol is pretty standard for city costs.
Again, like most major cities there are plenty of places to go depending on what you like.
