    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Thoroughly enjoyed my internship. I made loads of friends and enjoyed all the expeiriences that came with my time here.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The work I did was 'real work' and therefore anything I could help out with really helped my team as came during a very busy period.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Received feedback throughout my time here which really helped. I had a 'buddy' who I spoke to from when I got my offer and guided me through my time here helping with everything from where the best food is to reviewing my work. Managers were very busy, so the support was more down to my buddy rather than the manager.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Been given plenty of varied work, from tax compliance to tax advisory which was something I wasn't expecting. Was given work from a variety of colleagues from associates to managers. We were also given a project to work on so any time where work was low meant I could research my project as well as doing my own personal learning about tax.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • All the work I was given had a meaning and was related to client work which meant it was important. I also went on a client visit and made decisions myself about the work I did.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • In six weeks I have enhanced my skills from problem solving to business acumen. All the interns got to attend a two day presentation course which was amazing! We were given constructive feedback which will help with any kind of human interaction. It has also greatly helped my technical tax skills, as I will be studying advanced taxation during my final year. I am also more commercially aware and have more of an understanding about business issues.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Loads of interns and graduates which makes the atmosphere fun.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Internship was well structured with organised events for the interns to network and have fun. We had an induction day where all the Southern interns met and did team building exercises and went through the intern assessment forms and projects.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We went for two days to Grant Thornton's national training centre (Bradenham) for a presenting course. We had two nights of acommodation and three meals a day plus excellent training! We had lunch and learns where managers would attend and speak to us about their career paths and many other networking events. My colleagues trained me in using the software however on the induction day we were all shown how to use the laptops and email etc.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    National Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • They offer all interns a chance to secure a graduate position.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Excellent social scene. We went on nights out and to the theatre. We also had many lunches together.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I lived at home so that was very cost efficient, however would be expensive otherwise to rent in central London. The train ticket was expensive however. There is always happy hour buzzing around so going out in London doesn't have to be expensive. As well as cheap theatre tickets if you buy from the right websites.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Nightlife is great! The interns had nights out in Euston, Shoreditch and Moregate. Bars are always busy.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There are always events being run by Grant Thornton after work such as treasure hunts and tours of London. There is also the annual Grant Thornton golf and football tournaments for both men and women.
