The Role
HP Labs is a nice place to work in, the atmosphere is friendly and informal. It's very relaxed and flexible working environment.
All the people that I worked with were very nice and friendly. The company organized some social events for interns. Also, other informal events were organized by colleagues.
They were very supportive and helpful. The only drawback is that due to the nature of work in the labs, not many people have strong foundation in technical and engineering aspects.
It depends really on how you organize your day. but in general, there was something to do but it was not overwhelming
my responsibility to create a system which was part of a bigger project, the ideas and direction were coming from my supervisor, but I had the freedom and responsibility on how to implement them.
It's difficult to give precise mark for this question, but for sure I developed skills which I am currently using in my research study and will probably use for future.
The Company
I would not say it was very much fun in the office, people were engaged and busy with their work, but It's more active when it's the lunch break or the Thursday's cake break.
No personal training was done
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
Financial Bonus
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Working from home
It would be great to get a job in HP, but not much hiring is going on due to the economic crisis
The Culture
Bristol is a bit more expensive than some other cities, but there might be more expensive cities than Bristol. In general, It is still affordable to live and socialize.
I wasn't interested in night life, hence can't tell much
Have not got time to look for these things when I did my placement as it was in parallel with writing my dissertation.
