    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed working at BP, making lots of friends along the way and learning from professionals in their line of service. I was given so much to do and was never bored, I found the whole experience very stimulating.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I was seen as an equal member of the team, they explained everything to me along the way. I never once felt that I was an intern and I even used to give advice to some of the full time members of staff working there.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Every step was explained to me along the way, a real experience of what the job involves. If I ever needed to approach someone, my manager or my personal ‘buddy’ were always there to talk to, although this rarely happened as I they always approached me first.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • This varied, depending on the stage of the audit and whether the client had provided all the relevant information. I had to stream line two departments of the firm which was a very intense time and took up a lot of my working time.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given independent tasks to work on and had very little interference from management. I really appreciated this level of independence that I was given.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I will use the skills I learnt in a professional services environment and value them in future jobs/ at BP. Skills that I feel that I have gained include speaking and listening skills, numeracy skills as well as tem work skill.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Fun, lively environment, everyone friendly and willing to help you and there was never a dull moment in the office. The office was in a prime location and the views of canary wharf were amazing which always lifted ever ones moods.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I was based at 4 different departments, all with varied work. When I wasn’t auditing a specific department, I would then carry on with my other project of streamlining two internal departments which meant that I was always busy and had work to do.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I learnt valuable team working, leadership and improved my confidence through the internship. I also feel that BP invested a lot of time and money into me.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • ACA qualification would be a great and fun way to start a career in BP with people your own age. Because I completed the internship I was told that I can skip some of the recruitment process when I apply for a graduate role.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I felt that it was really sociable, organised lots of events, met up for drinks after work most days. I got to know a few of the employees really well and still keep in touch with them today.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I lived at home during my placement just outside of london. Socialising was expensive, but as expected in Canary wharf everything was going to be expensive. (Although there were a few good quality and decently priced bars near the office.)

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Amazing nightlife, caters for everones needs and the commute from Canary Wharf to central London really wasnt too long. The nightlife in London is next to none!

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • A group of interns organised lots of socials, also BP organised a few events for all of us which meant that I got to meet a few of the other interns.
