    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I was in the Corporate Bank and saw many different roles that were on offer here - it was great to see the huge variety of jobs; there is definitely something for everyone

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • We were in a fairly large group for an insight week but the HR staff were very good at making us feel comfortable. When we did placements around the bank the other employees were respectful and always ready to answer any questions we had

    4/5

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • Lots of support all the time - as mentioned before there was no question that wouldn't be answered and lots of information thrown at us to keep us engaged

    5/5

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • We had several workshops and interactive talks which were very useful and aimed at improving presentation/communication skills

    4/5

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • Very well structured - we were given a detailed timetable at the beginning of the week

    5/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • Kept busy all the time. It was a fairly large group but we all got on well and it was nice to be around like-minded people

    4/5

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • It is clear that RBS are looking for a particular type of individual and the workshops/skills sessions helped bring out those particular skills. However, as we were a large group it was sometimes difficult to be critiqued and helped to be improved individually (although this is not what an insight week is about!)

    4/5

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • We had 4 work shadowing placements in smaller groups which was really good - it was much easier to ask employees questions and see what kind of things they did. In some placements we were given case studies and in another we were given an actual piece of work which I found the most helpful insight. Ideally it would be better to spend more time to see exactly how a day would run in that particular role, but again we only had a week!

    4/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • It was really interesting being submerged into the bank but I would perhaps liked to have known a bit more about the values the bank likes to work by and how these are included in the variety of roles we looked into

    3/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • 4/5

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • Living in London I was not reimbursed but many people were reimbursed travel and some stayed in a hotel with paid expenses

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • A few lunches and after-work drinks. Some work placements offered the opportunity to meet different people around the business

    3/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • A good variety of people from around the bank

    4/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • Some charity events (didn't hear about any others but I'm sure there are some!)

    3/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • If they have an interest in financial services but aren't sure whether to go into investment banking or consultancy/accountancy, this would be a good thing to do to help you make up your mind

    4/5
