About You
incredible week!
they looked after us very well. alot of busy people from different levels and departments took their time to give us presentations on what they do. made friends with alot of students too.
great support. they really looked after us. first two days involved a series of talks about the bank and roles within the divisions (didnt know know too much about that, but now i do!). next two days were rotations. the analysts were busy but they still offered invaluable advice and rly took their time to help us.
still not too sure about all roles within markets, but this is to be expected. they dont expect you to have an absolutely thorough understanding before you join anyway, just a bit of key knowledge on the markets. certainly learned alot more than i could from any book, especially about rbs and its current situation (which isnt that bad by the way!).
The Company
no hiccups in the program. first two days were very well structured, and alot of people on hand to help you out. next two days involved going to various places in london (all walking distance). have to have good timekeeping for that, but again its to be expected if you want to join.
very good. everyone was friendly, and we were encouraged to mingle with others via various activities and talks regarding social skills, teamwork etc. surprised with how many people i actually talked to, and made friends with, during the week. quiz and other networking events in the evening had certainly aided this.
it was amazing how much effort RBS had put into the graduate recruitment, especially since it was only a spring week and there was only 120 of us in total (rbs employs much greater for its summer internship i think). a week isnt along time in terms of development, but they certainly squeezed the best out of you!
talking with analysts in the division i had chosen, i certainly got a feel for the type of person you need to be to work well in the organisation, as well as work hours, office culture etc. glad i didnt learn this through a summer internship eslewhere, as i might have been a bit overwhelmed with the work too soon on.
in two days you'd be surprised with what you learn about people in the offices you rotate to. everyone was brilliant; a really friendly, welcoming environment, without forsaking the opportunity to compete and incentivisation to go up
really pulled me towards a career in markets. not sure what else i would want to do now!
Everything Else
travel and accommodation (which was very nice and close!)
rotations and the networking event gave us opportunities to talk to analysts and md's alike.
really good, chillaxed, fun!
not sure about sports and stuff, but think its a little to early to learn that (plus there was alot to fill in in the week). we did take part in a volunteering initiative with people from the community we were staying in, on the last afternoon of the week. really good fun
definitely worth it, even if you're not sure, go there anyway to have a good time and learn alot about banking and rbs
