The Role
The 6 week placement was a great way to utilise some of the skills learnt at uni and put them into practice and earn a little bit of money at the same time. It was an enjoyable experience.
Colleagues demonstrated value by making me feel welcomed during the 6 weeks. They would even ask me to have lunch with them which I thought was a great gesture.
Guidance was given by weekly reviews on our performance. The Performance Scorecard consisted of targets in terms of dispensing.
Definitely busier on the weekends, but there was always a task that needed completing when it was quiet on the shop floor such as filing patient records.
We were given a lot of responsibility which was great as we were only there for 6 weeks. This involved helping the patient through the patient journey by aiding them in frame selection and lens choice for their glasses.
The 6 weeks was in my second year of uni so was a great foundation for when I returned to university and had the opportunity to put some of this into practice with more complex patients.
The Company
The atmosphere in the store was great. We had some very entertaining colleagues.
The placement was structured well and they organised group activities and socials which allowed us to network.
The company paid for our initial training course and for socials.
Company Parties/Events
Furture employment prospects are very appealing given the size and reputation of the company.
The Culture
Yes, the London interns had the odd night out during the course of the placement.
London is typically more expensive than the national average.
Consisted of numerous pubs and not so much clubs.
Unfortunately there was not as this is dependant on what activities the store staff take part in.
