  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It was the perfect balance between challenging, manageable, hardwork and enjoyable.

  • I was immediately taken in by my team and included in team events and meetings

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was assigned a `buddy` and if I had any problems or queries we would sit down and go through it.

  • Each day was never boring or too stressful, so the time just flew by!

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Having settled down in my team I was given a few projects which I had the sole responsibility of progressing from start to finish.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills that I learnt are vital as I enjoyed the placement so much that I am going back to work full-time in September 2013!

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was great, obviously everyone had a job to do... but we still managed to have a laugh and a chat several times a day.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The HR team at Barcap are fantastic and despite being off-cycle interns we were well looked after.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Obviously it is difficult to train and invest an intern who is only on a team for 6 months, however we were given access to a fantastic online learning and development site which had numerous tests/ quizzes and trainings to be chosen from.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I enjoyed my time at BarCap so much that I immediately knew I wanted to go back to work there once I had graduated.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I met up with the 5 other interns every thursday lunchtime for a chilli con carne and a catch up. We also went out for drinks on several occassions.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The biggest problem with London is costs! Even though the graduate/ intern salary is well above the national average... it is still hard to save much by the end of it

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Once a month we had a team meeting followed by drinks, however we did meet up on a few other occasions.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were a few opportunities to join sport teams or other clubs, which another intern took up.
