    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The company have a well structured student program, with many aspects incorporated to ensure that the student is valued as much as a permanent member of staff.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • People in the company were extremely approachable and always offering advice. There are many of opportunities to know your colleagues outside of work through social events and many people become extremely close friends in the year that you're there.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My team were extremely supportive throughout my entire placement, guiding me through every aspect of my work and helping me with the burden of university work when needed.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Theres always an opportunity to develop at the company, within your own department or in other departments, with a project and experiencing other areas which I may not have been so familiar with every day was interesting and I managed to build up a large portfolio of skills.

  • I was in charge of driving my own project with occassional guidance from my other colleagues.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • There were many aspects I had acquired on placement that I didn't realise full til I had left, such as organisational and time management. The company also offer you extensive training on many skills that would be advantageous future careers such as presentation training and a CV building workshop.

  • Perfect balance, an enjoyable place to work which increased productivity

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The placement exceeded my expectations and it was a fantastic year, however year on year suggestions are made by the students to improve the set up, which are taken into consideration. Meaning that the company are ahead of other companies for student placements and improving year after year.

  • The students are important to the company which is evident by the way we were treated.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Leading in science there is alot more potential in this company as year after year they are improving every aspect of the company. Becoming internationally recognised for their exceptional science as well as their products.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • With eight students, it was great to meet knew people and experience a knew city/ area together, there were plenty of trips at weekends and in the evenings, I've made some very close friends over the last year.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The area was a lot more expensive than I was used to after living further north, especially in restaurants/bars/clubs/cinemas

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Not as good as the city I reside in currently, however there was still a large of variety of pubs and clubs and a few hidden gems which many of my work colleagues were aware of already, such as The Hobbit and I'd recommend a pub crawl in Winchester.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were always opportunities posted on the bulletin board by sports and social or other colleagues, such as paintballing, ascot, playzone, go karting
