    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I have really enjoyed the internship, and feel I have developed my skills, having learnt a lot about the world of private banking and exceptional wealth management. The internship has been very structured, providing an insight into the many different departments at Coutts.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Colleagues always tried to involve me in work, providing me with interesting jobs to do. I was able to help them with their day to day activities, and I felt like I was completing tangible work that will remain useful both in the present and after I left.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Management were always available to answer any queries that I had, and offered support to me when I required it. All tasks were explained to me clearly, and I understood the importance of the work I was undertaking. After I had finished a task, I was made aware of what was required next, and I felt like I could finish a project in its entirety as opposed to just one component.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • My role varied on a day to day basis, but for the majority of the internship, I was kept busy, either with ongoing project work, or day to day assistance of the team. This allowed me to gain an understanding of both long term and short term tasks, and gave me a chance to appreciate how to prioritise work.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was provided with tasks that were important in devising a long term strategy for the business, and I conducted research that will be used by the business after I have completed my internship. I have also been given the opportunity to meet clients, which demonstrates the responsibility Coutts hands to their interns.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have gained a practical understanding of the workings of a leading private bank. As my degree is in Management Studies, I feel the experiences I have amassed will allow me to reinforce the theory that I learn on a day to day basis at university. For example, when studying a marketing module, I will have practical examples to use from my experiences at Coutts, which will increase my understanding and provide some depth to my studies.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Everyone in the office is very open and friendly, always willing to listen to you and answer any queries you may have. The office is open plan and there is always a good mix of friendly chatter and serious work. Furthermore, senior management sit with the rest of the team, which provides easier access to them, and allows you to gain a different perspective into the work you are undertaking.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The Internship was quite structured, with a variety of events that were set up in order for us to gain a broader understanding of the business as a whole. We spent full days with numerous departments around the business, and we were given access to senior management through speaker series. This allowed us a unique insight into the world of Coutts, and has proved invaluable to improving our skills and giving us a wide appreciation of how all the departments at Coutts work together.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Coutts invested heavily in the internship programme, providing many development days with departments from around the business in order for us to increase our skills. There have also been numerous Speaker Series, after which we could network with senior management. This provides us with a chance to learn about their experiences, and gain a practical application of our training.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I am eager to return to Coutts on the graduate programme after being given a taste on the internship. This has whet my appetite, and I am eager to progress into a position in which I can flourish in the future.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was an active social scene amongst the other interns, helped by the events organised at Coutts. Furthermore, it was ideal that graduates from previous years were involved in all events, both to give us an understanding of their experiences on the graduate scheme, and also socially, as we bonded well.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Being in the heart of London, the cost of living and socialising is very high.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Once again, being in the heart of London means there is no better place to be in terms of nightlife. The range and variety is great and you can find a night to suit any mood.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • We have been involved in raising money for the Prince’s Trust, by running a mini marathon between all of the Coutts London Offices. As we ran in a group, we got to improve our team working ability, and we have raised a substantial amount.
