The Role
It was a practical experience mostly of delivering projects that have started earlier and being flexible to help with short tasks and admin. There was only 1 opportunity to design something-a tool. However, there were 2 opportunities, a team development event and the learning and development conference, where more was discussed about learning and development.
It was awakward sitting away from the team and my mentor while the L&D team were all together working and chatting. Only 1 of 5 people in the team took 15-30 minutes to introduce themselves when I started and unless I initiated conversation and interactions it was very quiet. It seems that I have been the responsibility of my mentor only because when asking a question I was almost always asked to ask my mentor.
Very limited support was provided by the team's management because there was very limited communication between us despite my efforts.
Quite busy with short term projects and ad hoc tasks mostly admin tasks.
There were set deadlines for all projects I had to roll out and I very much enjoyed delivering the projects ahead of time paying also attention to ensure that I produced results of high standards. It would have been even better if there was a kind of longer project to work on for a month or two alongside the smaller projects.
It is very useful for my studies in human resource development focusing on graduate's employability and volunteering and for experiencing what a learning and development team does within a large charity.
The Company
Mostly quiet, especially on Fridays.
The internship was very well planned and organised, impressively well!
It was a case of learning through doing work projects to help my mentor's work and a good training on cv writing and interview skills.
Healthcare/Dental
Quite appealing especially because of the charity's mission to beat Cancer and the overall good working atmosphere and the opportunity to volunteer in fun fundraising events.
The Culture
Yes, excellent with meetings, events and socialising inside and outside the charity's working hours.
I worked and lived in central London, zone 1 where accommodation and living costs are quite high. However, by sharing the flat with others and taking advantage of the happy hour I had a great time without getting out of pocket :-)
The nightlife is excellent near the area I worked. In the area I work there isn't much nightlife but a big green park.
Yes several opportunitites to get involved in weekend volunteering and fundraising activities...
