The Role
I found the internship very enjoyable, I was given interesting work and got involved with a variety of tasks, in addition, the office atmosphere was very positive and supportive of helping me get the most out of my time there.
Being given tasks that were important to the completion of large projects ensured that I felt valued by all of my collegues.
The amount of support available from my 'buddy' and everyone else I worked with was excellent.
I always had something I could be working on with the exception of a few days when the office was unusually quiet.
More responsibility than I expected, but never more than I could manage.
My time management skills improved as did my ability to work in a very diverse team, specifically working with those who have significantly more expertise than I do.
The Company
The overall atmosphere was good and everyone was very approachable. It was probably as expected, if there was a lot of work to be done then everyone would be working to complete their tasks, but the atmosphere was still friendly even on the busiest days.
From my point of view the organisation was perfect, I knew where to be each day and when I joined the office everyone was already aware that I would be starting and several colleagues had set aside work that I could start off with.
I attended a few training sessions that were run within my department for the associates who were working towards exams. The general training we received before starting work was thorough and I was given plenty of opportunity for personal development, especially through working on a project with three other interns in different offices.
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
I have already accepted my job offer to start work in the autumn of 2013.
The Culture
I socialised a few times with my colleagues over the six week internship and there were other opportunities that I couldn't commit to for various reasons. Overall there was a good social scene.
I worked in Manchester, which is where I'm from originally, so the costs involved were as expected and, compared to many other areas of the country, very reasonable.
I mostly went to local bars while I was working, but there are plenty of other places to go out within walking distance of the office.
There were a few sporting opportunities, which I chose not to participate in, as well as a ball and a day out to the races.
