    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I loved my internship at Hewlett Packard. It went above and beyond any expectations I had of a placement year.

  • My colleagues were extremely welcoming and understanding. They were fully supportive of everything I did.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager supported me throughout my placement at HP. He is also still supporting me now with graduate applications.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was always very busy on a day-to-day basis. I would sometimes work late and on weekend to get the work done.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I had my own marketing campaigns and was given much more responsibility than other interns who previously did my role.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I can honestly say that I learnt more at my time at HP than I have done during my whole education.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office atmosphere was great, we had cake sales and charity events monthly. However, the office was quite a serious place where deadlines had to be met.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was set up well, however the application and hiring process was quite unorganised as each department is in charge of recruiting. This year the hiring process was quite stressful.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • My manager provided me with most of my personal training and development. I can't say that HP specifically invested in me.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Future graduate positions are appealing, however there are no marketing roles on the graduate scheme.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Lots of social events. Climbed 3 peaks, raised £28,000 for charity, monthly social nights out, trips to london etc.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • reasonable. however I am from Leeds and up north is much cheaper than the south!

  • Nightlife in reading is average.

  • Not that many outside of work. Mostly intern social and charity society activities!
