    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?

    • (11 month placement) You are treated exactly like a graduate - no long days making tea! - and as a result it can be challenging. It is naive not to expect bad days or long days, but something always comes up to make each week exciting and enjoyable.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?

    • When they say everyone all the way up to partners have time for a chat or a friendly hello, they mean it!

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?

    • Extensive training so you are comfortable when you get on your first job. Be proactive about asking questions; everyone is happy to answer even the silliest. You can also get support any time from your buddy (grade above) and people manager at any time.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?

    • There are some slow days, and some long hectic days, but the majority of the time everyone pulls together. Don't lose sight of your work-life balance.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?

    • As I said, I was treated exactly like a graduate. Enthusiasm is recognised; be proactive!

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?

    • The ACA qualification is an excellent and globally recognised addition to your development and CV - and it's really helped with finance modules back at uni! Personally I took away bags of confidence, critical thinking skills and a fabulous new work ethic which is wonderful for final year and beyond.

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?

    • Work is mainly based at the client's office so the atmosphere can differ, but in general there is good banter and fun within the team. There are also plenty of cakes and social things to get involved with back in the office.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?

    • A well established program, just be aware of how any academic assignments fit in as this differs between university and PwC may not be aware of this.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?

    • I received all the training a graduate on the 3 year training contract would get in their first year - full expectation that you will be asked back.

    • Signed on for another 2 years minimum, to finish my training contract

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?

    • Going to college to study towards the ACA means the group becomes tightly knit more or less from day one. Plenty of get-togethers.

    • Don't have great knowledge of how this compares!!

    • Lots of variety.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?

    • Working from clients' offices means it's sometimes hard to get back for all the socials, but there are sports clubs, volunteering opportunities and so on if you get the time.
